Wordful Wednesday: Music

"Mom! You have to see this! This it the most totally random piece of music ever."

"Actually honey, that's kind of a famous song. I played that on the piano when I was your age."

"What? That's crazy! How could this be a famous song? It's bizarre!"

And then it hit me. I knew what the title meant, but he was reading it rather literally:

He's been walking around waving to the walls and saying "goodbye old paint!" ever since, and laughing every time. For the uninitiated, "Old Paint" is a horse. This is an old cowboy song. I guess his music teacher didn't explain that.

I'm still playing songs that sound like what they describe. Currently on my music stand is a song about a bunch of dancing elves. Makes about as much sense as singing about an old horse.

I think I totally cheated on the picture part of this, but if you want to see real pictures, like of cute kids and sunrises and other tangible things (maybe even some paint) go visit Angie at Seven Clown Circus who hosts Wordful Wednesday.

I'm glad he's learning those older songs. What will happen to them if the younger ones don't learn them?
My whole family, even those of us who don't read music, can play the song Garden Wall on the piano because my grandmother taught it to us.
I love that.

Well I am far along in my piano lessons to know how far along a person would have to be to play a song like this song. BRAVO!

Wow, I bet those are some songs.

The old songs are some of the best and need the newer generation to carry them on.

Looks a complicated song. I would love to hear it.
I will have a go at linking up on Friday if I can work out what to do! Thanks for your comment.

Very cool that he's being taught the "old stuff"! Oh do I get extra credit for actually having a Paint horse?! ;)

I didn't really know who Old Paint was either! I thought maybe it was the theme song for one of those decorating shows:)

That's hilarious! I know where your son's coming from, I'm always misunderstanding music. My father in law is a composer, and I must must admit I "don't get" his music at all. Luckily, at the one and only concert I've ever been to where his music was performed I got an eyelash stuck under my contact lens, and tears streamed down my face the whole concert. Everyone assumed I was "moved" when in fact I had no idea what the hell was going on ;)
