Yet Another Insane School Project

"Mom, in history class we're doing biographical reports, and we all get to dress up as our character."

My mind raced. I've been down this road before. Madame Curie wasn't too hard. Amelia Earhart was doable. What fresh costume did I have to come up with this time?"

"That sounds like fun honey! Who do you get to be?"

"Now mom, don't panic. I know how you are. They said just to make our costumes from things we have around the house."

"Sure dear. I'm sure we'll manage something simple but effective. Who. Who are you going to be?"

"You see, I was sick the day they handed out names. I sort of got an extra name the teacher thought up."

(I'm getting pretty nervous at this point. Clearly, she is holding back on revealing her subject). "Who?"

"Katherine of Aragon."

"Sure. No problem dear. I'm sure we can come up with a costume for you from stuff we have around the house."

AAAACK. Let's get serious! How am I going to pull this one off?

I will admit, Katherine of Aragon was a pretty cool woman though. She was Henry VIII's first wife. Now, if I can just figure out how to make that signature peaked hat she wore. I'm open to suggestions. I hope I get an A for this project.

If I had a need to dress up as Katherine of Aragon, I'd go with a decorated cereal box for the headdress. After a quick google, this lady has beaten me to the idea ... and gone waaay past what I would do.

A milk carton with black fabric for the hat.

Funny but I have the exact neckalce for that outfit!

Take foam core board or cardboard and put tape at the seam (top) of the 'hat'. Cover in batting and fabric. Voila!

good luck

The first thing that I thought of when looking at her head dress, was a birdhouse.

It looks like a book on top!! You can sooooooo do this one!!

I might get some light wood and a ring from Home Depot/Lowes (or the garage). Add some tapestry fabric and embellishments for the hat, for sure. The dress looks like a prom or jr bridesmaid dress that has been embellished (if you don't have one sitting around, check a consignment shop or just make one!). And, I would add some more drapery ends for the sleeves. Don't forget the feather fan.

I can hardly wait to see what you come up with. Your quilts are awesome! This should be a piece of cake!!

There are not many things in life I hate worse than dressup days at school. My kids learned that they could only be something very, very simple!
